The Technics SL-1200 MK2, introduced in 1979, is an iconic, quartz-locked direct-drive turntable famous for its indestructible build, zero-skip torque, and precise pitch fader. Though originally designed for hi-fi home audio, it became the global "industry standard" for DJs.
Specs & Key Features
- Drive Type: Quartz-controlled direct drive
- Speeds: 33 \(\frac{1}{3}\) and 45 RPM
- Pitch Control: ± 8% sliding fader
- Wow and Flutter: 0.01% WRMS

Why It Remains Desirable
- Built like a tank: The heavy rubber and aluminum die-cast base absorb vibrations, making it incredibly resilient.
- Repairability: Because it was in production for over 30 years, nearly every part is still accessible today.
- Cartridge Swapping: The standard half-inch mount headshell makes changing cartridges a breeze.
